Smart Copy processes everything locally in your browser. It has no server, no account and no analytics.
What it reads, and when
The text you have selected in the current tab — only when you click a Smart Copy menu item, press a Smart Copy shortcut or open its popup.
The address of a link — only when you choose "Copy link without tracking" on it.
The formatting of your selection or a table's cells — only when you choose "Copy as Markdown" or "Copy table".
The current page's content — only when you choose "Copy page as Markdown" or "Copy list as table", processed on your device.
Pro auto rules: on websites you add and grant access to one by one, the text you copy (or, for paste rules, paste) there is transformed on your device at that moment. "Private AI mode" is a set of such rules for chatgpt.com, claude.ai and gemini.google.com, added only when you turn it on: what you paste is stripped of personal data before the site sees it, and the originals stay in session memory on your device. No other website is ever accessed.
Smart Copy's own share page: when you open a shared preset link, the extension only tells that page it is installed and, if you click "Add", receives the preset from it. The preset travels in the part of the link after #, which browsers never send to any server.
"Save everything I copy" (off unless you turn it on, and Chrome asks you for access to all websites first): the text you copy on web pages is added to the history on your device. The clipboard itself is still never read.
"All open tabs" in the popup (Chrome asks you first): the titles and addresses of your open tabs, placed in the popup's input on your device.
It never reads your clipboard, your browsing history, or pages you haven't acted on.
What it stores
Presets, settings, usage counters and the count of today's free Pro uses (numbers only) and, if you bought Pro, your license key and purchase email in chrome.storage.local on your device.
The last right-click result, in session memory, cleared when the browser closes — so you can recover it if a page blocks the clipboard.
History of your results (last 50, or 200 with Pro) in chrome.storage.local. You can turn it off (which deletes it) or clear it in Settings. It is never exported, synced or sent.
Personal data hidden with "Hide personal data" is kept only in session memory, so it can be restored, and is erased when the browser closes. Your "always hide" word list is stored in chrome.storage.local on this device.
Pro preset sync: if you turn it on, your presets (names and steps, no copied content) are stored in your Google account through Chrome sync.
What it sends
Nothing you copy or select, ever. The only network traffic is optional: if you activate Smart Copy Pro, your license key and a device label (e.g. "Smart Copy · MacIntel") are sent to Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider, to activate it, and the key is re-checked about once a week. Purchases (which ask for your email and card) happen on Lemon Squeezy's checkout page under their privacy policy. No data is sold or used for advertising.
Your control
Settings → Backup lets you export, import or delete all local data at any time. Uninstalling removes everything.
